At Tesco Bank, staff recognition is of paramount importance. This awards dinner was an opportunity for staff members who go the extra mile to be recognised and rewarded for their efforts. In the months leading up to the awards evening, members of staff throughout the organisation were given the chance to vote for their colleagues in seven different categories. Once the judging panel had decided on the top three for each, they were invited to this spectacular event. In the early evening, guests arrived at the stunning Norton House Hotel in Edinburgh for a pre-dinner drinks reception. Despite the weather being terrible throughout May, guests were extremely lucky that the sun shone, allowing them to take full advantage of the beautiful gardens, ice cold beers and sparkling wine.
The doors to the main room were kept tightly closed during the drinks reception to prevent any guests spoiling the surprise that awaited them (despite a few attempts from peeping Toms!) When the doors were opened and guests entered the room, they were nothing less than stunned by the room that awaited them.
Tables were set with midnight blue taffeta linen, branded ‘star chocolates’ and tall star globe centre pieces which changed colour every few seconds. Star gobos bounced from the walls to the ceilings, offering guests an entrance they wouldn’t forget. Guests sat down at their allocated tables and were welcomed by the Head of Bank Learning. The awards were presented between courses during the dinner and each winner or group of winners received a fabulous glass engraved star trophy and had their photograph taken on the stage.
Shortly after dinner, guests were asked to make their way to the foyer and garden areas so that the room could be refreshed for the evening celebrations. During this time, an extremely talented silhouette cutter and fantastic caricaturist entertained the guests, maintaining the atmosphere and excitement. When guests returned to the room, a black gloss dance floor was awaiting them along with an energetic party band allowing them to dance the night away. All guests thoroughly enjoyed their evening and were very complimentary in their feedback. It was a pleasure to be involved in the organisation of this event and I look forward to working with the team in the future.
